About Us:
The Society for Whole Body Autoradiography (SWBA) is a non-profit organization of scientists dedicated to the utilization of autoradiographic techniques to study the distribution of radiolabeled compounds in various sample preparations. The SWBA membership is composed of international scientists in academia and industry.
Our Mission :
The Society for Whole Body Autoradiography is dedicated to the refinement and implementation of autoradiography in academic and industrial research and development. The society is also devoted to continued education and collaboration with other image-based and related science technologies.
History :
In 1990, several of our founding (charter) members attended the International Conference and Workshop on In-Vitro/In-Vivo Autoradiography and Correlative Imaging Meeting in Chapel Hill, NC. Discussion ensued, which lead to a small group of autoradiographers assembling at a hotel in downtown Chicago in 1992. The group met again the following year (1993), when Leica hosted the first U.S. customer meeting in Deerfield, IL. The society gained momentum and was officially established at a meeting in Louisville, KY, in 1994. Since inception, SWBA meetings have been held regularly on an eighteen month interval. The society also offers technical training through U.S.-based macro-autoradiography short courses on a regular basis.
